CD Brand
This project was for Collin Dackus, a creator focused on photography, cinematography, and social media. I developed a logo that reflected his creative identity, experimenting with different shapes and compositions to create a clean and modern visual style. I wanted the final design to match the professional and minimal aesthetic of his work.
About the project
After some discussion, we decided that the design should have a connection to communication and/or cinematography. I started by writing down my associations with both subjects and exploring different possible directions. One idea that stood out to me was the chat bubble, as it is a modern and recognizable symbol of communication. It also felt fitting because Collin had already used a chat bubble in a outdated logo he created himself. I decided to develop this idea further, along with a few other concepts, by sketching them out on paper. This helped me explore different shapes and compositions before arriving at my first clear logo concept.
Concept and Result
My first concept was a chat bubble incorporating Collin’s initials, the C and D. Based on this idea, I also created a film clapperboard concept. I discussed both ideas with Collin, and we agreed that the chat bubble had the most potential. I then developed it further by creating many variations, making small adjustments to the shape, letters, angles, and overall composition. Eventually, I presented six different icon concepts, from which we selected one as the final direction. Using this icon as a base, I also created a full logo incorporating Collin’s complete name.
The colors
Additionally, I created a color palette that matched the style of the logo. Since the logo has a clean and structured look, I decided to go for a minimalistic and modern color palette as well. I chose an aqua monochromatic palette, which gives the design a fresh and consistent feel. Blue was also the preferred color, so I was happy to find a way to incorporate it while keeping the overall identity modern and cohesive.
